Hooray, It’s Your Day! A Cheerful Birthday Card with Vintage Charm

This bright and cheerful birthday card combines pretty florals, colorful chevrons, and a sweet vintage-inspired girl image for a fun, whimsical design.

I started with a bright blue card base that creates a colorful border around the patterned papers. The floral background adds a soft, feminine touch, while the colorful chevron panel gives the card a little more energy and dimension.

The vintage-style girl image is the focal point of the card. Her blue hat, decorated with flowers, coordinates beautifully with the blue card base. I finished the design with a simple sentiment strip that reads “Hooray! It’s Your Day.”

Supplies

• A2 card base in bright blue
• Floral patterned paper
• Colorful chevron patterned paper
• Vintage-style girl image or ephemera
• Birthday sentiment
• White cardstock for the sentiment
• Adhesive
• Foam adhesive or dimensional adhesive
• Paper trimmer
• Scissors or detail scissors

Instructions

1. Prepare the card base.
   Start with an A2 card base measuring 5½" × 4¼". The bright blue base provides a colorful border around the entire design.
2. Add the floral background.
   Cut the floral patterned paper slightly smaller than the card front and adhere it to the card base, leaving a narrow blue border.
3. Create the focal panel.
   Cut a piece of the colorful chevron paper to form a horizontal panel across the lower portion of the card. Mat it with coordinating blue cardstock or patterned paper if desired.
4. Add the vintage image.
   Carefully trim around the girl image. Attach her to the chevron panel, using foam adhesive to give her some dimension and make her stand out from the background.
5. Create the sentiment.
   Stamp or print “Hooray! It’s Your Day” onto a strip of white cardstock. Trim the ends and layer it across the lower-left portion of the card.
6. Finish the card.
   Check that all the layers are securely attached and add additional foam adhesive where needed for dimension.
